The technology implemented in the GRID center, necessary for data processing and storage, is one of the latest generation, namely Blade technology. The GRID center of INCDTIM benefits from a Data Center equipped according to the standards in force, having all the facilities of a modern data center:

  • Permanent power supply provided by a 96kVA Symetra APC UPS that provides a 30-minute autonomy for computing equipment and a 220kVA maximum load diesel generator with an 8-hour autonomy and automatic entry into load in 15 seconds;
  • Industrial air conditioning system composed of 4 Uniflair Leonardo units (120 kBTU/unit), which operates in a 2+2 regime to maintain the internal temperature in the range of 20-21°C;
  • Monitoring system of environmental parameters in the Data Center (temperature, humidity) with automatic alarm via GSM in case of failure, including video monitoring system;
  • Fire extinguishing system with inert gas (temperature limit threshold 90°C);
  • Technical floor for easy cable management and optimal ventilation.

The capacity of the center in the case of the exclusive installation of Blades is 128 processors/rack (1024 processors in 8 racks or 10240 cores or more, all depending on the number of cores/processor), the remaining 2 racks using se for the INCDTIM internal network and the backup system in case of power failure.

ATLAS-GRID Infrastructure

HPC Infrastructure

The connection of INCDTIM’s GRID center to the RoEduNet network is made through an optical fiber link (2 “dark fiber” leased). The bandwidth is 10 Gbps being provided by the educational data network to RoEduNet. The gateway used for connection is a Cisco Enterprise 6509E layer 3 switch, which ensures connection at the speed of 10/100 Gbps with the RoEduNet network, as well as the connection of equipment from the internal network of INCDTIM with speeds of 1/10/20/40 Gbps.

The ATLAS-GRID distributed computing system, located in 4 racks, includes:

  • Management station (arc-node.itim-cj.ro);
  • Data processing stations (work nodes): 84 units.
The main technical characteristics:
  • Processing capacity: 1,500 cores;
  • Virtual organizations: atlas, ops;
  • Operating System: CentOS 7.9, 64 Bit.

The high-performance computing system, located in 3 racks, includes:

  • HPC cluster with a certified computing power of 7.1 Tflops, provided by a processing capacity of 512 cores and a storage capacity of 15TB;
  • MPI Aragon and MPI C3000 clusters for quantum chemistry applications: Molpro, Gaussian, Crystal.
