Dr. Romulus Valeriu Flaviu Turcu

Dr. Flaviu Turcu serves as the Director of National Institute for Research and Development of Isotopic and Molecular Technologies since October 2019. He is responsible for ongoing activities, associated with current strategic plan (2014-2020) and for establishing the Institute’s 2030 vision and setting its strategic direction.

Before joining NIRD-IMT, Dr. Flaviu Turcu spends over 17 years in the field of R&D and academia. Since February 2017 he is Associated Professor at Physics Department with Babeș-Bolyai University. Prior to this, from the beginning of the 2010 until 2012, he was scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, a US Department of Energy laboratory in Richland, WA.

Since the summer of 2016, Dr. Flaviu Turcu has been a visiting professor at University of Rochester, Rochester NY, where he has worked on its Ain Center for Entrepreneurship.

Dr. Flaviu Turcu has extensive interdisciplinary research experience gained over a decade of work in different groups/countries form Europe (Radboud University, Nijmegen, The Netherlands; CNRS Orleans, France; NICPB, Tallinn, Estonia; Bruker Corp. Ettlingen, Germany) and North America (University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge Canada; Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, NM USA; Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Richland, WA USA)

He earned the Doctorate degree in Physics from Babeș-Bolyai University. He had previously earned a master’s degree in Material Science and a bachelor’s degree in engineering.

Dr. Flaviu Turcu has extensive experience in the research, academic, business, and government arenas of science and technology.
